About

Barnaby is a vocalist, pianist and artist whose music explores themes of existentialism, in relation both to the fragility of the natural world and to queerness.

Their initial exposure to music was as a chorister, singing classical settings of religious canticles, before discovering the music of Sarah Vaughan and Miles Davis as a teenager. After studying piano and voice at the University of Oxford, Barnaby moved to London to pursue jazz, learning with icons from the British jazz scene, Anita Wardell and Brigitte Beraha.

Since making London their home, Barnaby’s sung at venues such as Pizza Express Dean St, King’s Place, Jazz Cafe, and performed alongside jazz luminaries like Norma Winstone and Dave Holland as part of the London Vocal Project (dir. Pete Churchill). They also work as a session musician for recording artists, TV/Film projects (Hulu, The Imperial War Museum), as well as being a ballet accompanist for The Royal Academy of Dance and Chelsea Ballet.

Collaboration is a big part of Barnaby’s work. Since 2021 they’ve been a co-writer and pianist for cabaret artist, The Gorgeous Diva, reaching the finals of the Musical Comedy Awards in 2023; also in 2023, they scored their first short film, Love is a Ball (by Chris Gau). Barnaby’s currently working on a debut EP.
